Around September 27, the CIA added the link “https://t.me/securelycontactingcia” to their X profile. This link should have led users to their Telegram channel for sharing tips. Due to the glitch, the link was condensed to “https://t.me/securelycont,” which happened to be an unused Telegram account. This meant that if the error went unnoticed, anyone could claim the link and redirect traffic from the CIA’s X account to their own page.
The Hacker’s Concerns
McSheehan expressed deep concerns about this situation. He believed it was a “perfect storm” that could have allowed malicious actors to intercept sensitive information meant for the CIA. He also feared that a country like Russia, China, or North Korea could exploit this vulnerability to access Western intelligence.
